New to Everyday Math
Welcome to Everyday Mathematics. We strongly recommend that you read the introduction at the beginning of your Teacher's Lesson Guide, or
TLG. (The TLG is the thick, spiral-bound book included in your set of EM materials.) It explains the curriculum's
mission, how lessons are organized, and what all the various books are for.
Experience has shown that new EM teachers also benefit from the following:
- Grade-by-Grade Information
- Learning goals for your grade level and lists of books we recommend for your classroom
- Correlations to State and
National Standards
- How specific EM lessons meet the standards
- Advice from Colleagues
- Read tips from other teachers about getting started with EM, assessment,
meeting individual needs, pacing and planning, and using technology in the classroom.
- Professional Development
- The Center for Elementary Mathematics and Science Education provides professional development to schools that implement
Everyday Mathematics. For more information, contact Debbie Leslie (daleslie@uchicago.edu) for Science and Cheryl Moran
(cgmoran@uchicago.edu) for Mathematics.
- Wright-Group/McGraw-Hill, the publisher of Everyday Mathematics also provides professional development.
- EM Online
- Wright-Group, the publisher of EM, offers a online tools for teachers, including an assessment manager, online games for students, interactive versions of
My Reference Book and the Student Reference Books, and a class planner. These features are available to subscribers at
Everyday Mathematics Online. If you don't already have a username or registration code, your school will
need to purchase a subscription. Ask an administrator at your school to call Wright-Group's customer service at 1-800-648-2970 for more information.
